Outreach just released an "AI Maturity Model" — a framework that tells you how ready your sales operation is to actually benefit from AI tools.

The gist: they've mapped out stages from basic CRM adoption all the way to AI-assisted execution. The "connected" stage they highlight assumes you already have documented processes, clean data flowing across systems, and modern tooling in place. Only then does AI start doing anything useful.

Here's what that means if you're in the weeds right now. If your CRM data is inconsistent, your workflows are duct-taped together, and your team works around the system more than in it — you're not at the starting line for AI. You're behind it. Every AI feature your vendor pitches assumes a foundation you probably don't have yet.

That's not a dig. Most mid-market ops teams inherited a CRM that was never set up to match how the business actually runs. Of course the data is messy. Of course the processes aren't documented. The tool never made it easy to do those things in the first place.

The uncomfortable truth in Outreach's model is buried in the fine print: AI doesn't fix a broken foundation, it just moves faster on top of one.
